1st of all, thanks to Steve and all at APT for getting this done. The game looks good and we had 3 tables going within an hour of the feature being launched. IMO, this will be a huge advance in the training potential of the site.
I thought I'd start a thread to get everyone's input and to see if people had suggestions. For me, I'd like to be able to keep track of simple stats like #hands played, net wins/losses and similar basic stuff. Maybe have the site create a session report similar to the live MTT where you'd be able to see all your sessions and basic stats without all the analytics to keep it easy. As it stands, once you get off the table, you don't have a record of how you did.
1 possible "bug" in the lobby - when looking at the table, it shows all the players and their net results. However, it is not netting out losses correctly as far as I can tell. For example, if a player starts with 2000 chips and losses 500, the stat should read -500. It does but only until the player reloads his stack, then it goes back to 0. So, it isn't really showing net wins/losses but only the current deviation from the last time a player brought chips to the table. I hope this makes sense. I don't know if it is doing the same thing for wins.
Well done again APT. Am very interested to see where this project goes. Live play vs other people training here has fantastic potential.

Glad you like the games. Just acknowledging that I saw this - don't really have anything concrete to say lol. We weren't really viewing this as a training project, just a fun addition for people who wanted to play against each other. I'm sure Steve can say more about that, but I hadn't really thought much about doing anything with the hands since they are on a different server, in a completely different format, etc. It would be a tremendous challenge to do anything similar report or training-wise like we do with the simulated game. It is something to think about though.
I enjoyed the cash games thoroughly. Good work rolling it out to the Blay brothers. No hitches in my experience. I played the tourney and cash at the same time. No problems. I 2 tabled the cash games. No problems. It was generally in good spirits. There were no- all in every hand- players.
Well done for the first day. 3 full tables running was better than i thought. I got a 4 bet bluff through on @1warlock so that was fun. He was none too pleased about that. That made it even better.
For those of you that saw me slinging arrows at 1warlock, we are actually quite friendly so it was all in good fun. He can dish it out and take it. All in all good roll out and I believe it will be a great addition to APT.
Hey Warlock you can always break out the abacus if you want to track your winnings. HTH
Highfive
LOL - very true. One of the best things in poker is talking smack to your friends at the table. The only thing I'll disagree with was about not being happy at your 4-bet bluff. I actually thought it was funny and almost 5-bet you but you were in aggro-donk mode and who knows if you shove 200BB on A2o? LOL. Good information to have for next time regardless. Silly hand to 4-bet.
I was hoping to be able to incorporate these games into the general training. I thought they could be useful in that regard. Oh well. GL everyone.
Added: Actually, the only play I was unhappy with myself over was folding to a 3-bet on a really wet board where I was blocking the nuts and had redraws against all made hands. I should have 4-bet at those stack depths but made a very weak fold instead. I knew it was wrong at the time and for some reason didn't pull the trigger as I should have. Extremely poor play by me. If I take 1 thing from the session, its not to deviate from my lines. I should never have bet the turn if I wasn't willing to go with the hand. Ugh.
The live games move way too slow. Plus, so few players are playing in a reasonable manner - all bluffing every hand- it is hard to sharpen your own game. Solutions? But they have to have a much quicker pace.
Thank you all for the feedback. The programming team has jump on this and made these immediate changes:
Players will only have 20 seconds to act in cash games, and a 30 second time bank.
There are now some higher stakes tables (10/25 and 50/100).
If you run out of chips, you can only reload your account once every 15 minutes.
One skill in poker is adjusting to the table you are playing. I dont know what " reasonable " is. People can play how they want. The tables were quite tame for play money tables. I have played many play money sites to know. I thought most were taking it quite seriously.
Bluffing - putting money in the pot when you likely dont have the best hand. I want people to do that.
Not sure what the problem is there. If one were so sure about so much bluffing, why not call more? No problem.
The games were slightly slow but not immensely. My personal slowness was likely do to my connection being in a rural area with inconsistent connectivity.
The extra tables likely are not necessary if you cant fill the ones already available. Different blinds does nothing IMO.
Is there a general time and or day that folks have been gathering to play live?
@russ1409 generally thus far around the evening tourney.
When I say reasonably I mean as an example not going all-in before the flop ridiculously. Like in a nine ring game someone goes all-in before the flop once per hand.
Of course, you want players to bluff and you must adjust to the table, but in the aforementioned example above, it is not a sign of good poker, not fun and not a learning experience.
The amount of time players have to decide makes the game very boring.
Thanks for your insight.
Lumberjack.
Just curious, how much time do you think people should have? We lowered it to 20 seconds, which is low compared to time limits on most games. I'm just surprised you still think it is too slow and I'm wondering what you are comparing it to.
I think 10 seconds with a limited number of times per hand extending to 20. The same players bet/fold at the end of the allotted time every time which makes me think they are distracted by other activities. Sometimes I feel I have enough time to smoke a cigarette and go to the bathroom before the game comes around to me.
lumberjack is probably a very good player who makes a most of his plays intuitively. However, since this is a training site and not a play-for-money site, I for one would like to have enough time to consider all of my options, strategies, ranges, etc. That's why I'm here, after all.
Also, I don't smoke, but I can't piss that fast.
Agreed.
